Employee Spotlight: Emma Sottosanti

October 4, 2019

Who has the best homemade jam recipe, a passion for television, the cutest Greyhound mix in southwestern Pennsylvania, and a sneaker collection that would make Serena Williams, Kylie Jenner, and Michael B. Jordan jealous?

It’s Emma Sottosanti, Cosmitto’s very own Digital Advertising Strategist.

Hailing from South Park Township, PA, Emma left the suburbs to study Advertising at Kent State University, where she also minored in Marketing. She always knew she wanted to pursue this in college—in fact, one of the reasons she picked KSU was because it is one of the few colleges in the area that offered an accredited advertising program. Before working at Cosmitto, Emma interned at The ToonSeum, which was one of the only comic and cartoon museums in the nation. We’re sad that the museum closed, but we’re glad that Emma landed in our office! Read on to learn more about our resident television show expert.

Q: Why did you want to work at Cosmitto?

A: I initially liked that we are solely digital-focused. I think that some agencies try to do it all and it impacts the quality of work. Four years later and I would agree with younger me on that.

Q: What’s your favorite aspect of your job as a Digital Advertising Strategist?

A: It’s hard to find a job that’s creative, yet analytical. It’s like the Old El Paso commercial—I get both.

Q: What’s your dream job?

A: If I could get paid to rant, that’d probably be dreamy for me. Yet again, you might ask around the office and find that I currently get paid to rant. But to be serious, I would love to expand my skills by learning how to produce digital ad videos.

Q: What are you most passionate about?

A: Finding as many great TV shows as possible.

Q: What’s the best social campaign you’ve seen recently?

A: LUSH’s “Shark Attack” campaign

Q: What are your favorite Twitter accounts to follow?

A: Will I get fired if I admit I don’t really use Twitter? I guess we’ll find out because if I’m fired this employee spotlight probably won’t ever see the light of day.

Q: Where is the coolest place you’ve ever been to?

A: London, Copenhagen, and Vienna are a few favs, but keep that to yourself because we wouldn’t want them to get overrun with tourists or anything.

Q: What’s one thing you could eat every day?

A: Bread. But not white bread. The hearty stuff. And put some seeds on the crust! Yeah, give me some hearty whole-wheat seedy bread. Or some sourdough. Mhm, yeah give me sourdough too. Is that technically white bread?

Q: What are some of your favorite movies? Name a few.

A: Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Jennifer’s Body

Q: What are some of your favorite books?

A: Some books I’ve enjoyed reading this year are Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, The Power by Naomi Alderman, and Hunger by Roxane Gay.

Q: What’s one song you could listen to on endless repeat?

A: This question is ridiculous. What mood am I in? What’s the weather like that day? Both are very important factors. Okay, sunny day & pensive mood = Leave Me Lonely By Ariana Grande ft. Macy Gray. Super cold weather & sad mood (probably because I’m well, super cold) = Ultraviolence full album by Lana Del Rey. Partly cloudy & happy = Let Me Blow Your Mind by Eve

Q: Coffee, tea, or other?

A: I like beer. But not at work. Not sure if this is an “at work” specific question. At work, I just drink from the watercooler. Or on other days I’ll go crazy and bring in a kiddie pool and fill it with sparkling water and use a ladle to drink from there.

Q: What would your patronus take the shape of?

A: This little lady (For those of you who don’t know, this is Emma’s pride and joy, Buffy.)

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Pittsburgh?

A: It storms often.

Q: Pierogies or Primantis?

A: Pierogies from Apteka

Q: What’s the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery?

A: Probably start an animal sanctuary, but figure out a way to still have it in the city. People would call it “The City Sanctuary.” Very clever of those people.

Q: What is your biggest fear?

A: I can’t even type it. Three-letter word, begins with an E, and some people (who are certainly not me) eat it on sushi.

Q: What are three things still left on your bucket list?

A: I don’t have a bucket list so I suppose starting a bucket list is currently the only item on my bucket list…but also, I have no plans to start a bucket list. I’m very sorry to all the engaged readers I am currently letting down.

Q: Who do you hope to be in 5 years?

A: I hope to be 5’9”. Since I’m currently 5’9”, I’d say I have a pretty good chance of achieving this.
